What the volunteers say

The volunteers in the Counseling Service for the Elderly at various branches have written about touching stories, as they share their feelings and thoughts, in order to call the attention of the public to the problems inherent in old age and the personal significance of those problems.

Twice a year, touching booklets are published, which open a window onto the hidden world of many elderly people, along with “What the volunteers say” about their emotions, experiences and the pain of identification, but also about their satisfaction with the endeavor and the dedicated support provided to the elderly.

Each person is a world onto himself, full of personal experiences that set him apart from others. Each person, by nature, needs to remind the world that he is a person who has known disappointments and has contended with problems, but he has also had successes.

Each person has a hidden desire to make a space in the hearts of others so that they will love him and remember him. Loneliness in old age is usually not from choice. “Some fear the silence and some find their souls within it” (Yonatan Gefen) and the volunteers do a great deal to instill life into it.
